My mint and complete Generalgouvernement stamps sets:

Generalgouvernement 1st Anniversary (26th October 1940):

1stanniversaryofGG

Here I have a set of three semi-postal stamps issued to commemorate the first anniversary since the founding of the Generalgouvernement. In ascending face value they feature a young girl, a woman and a man. All have slightly different backdrops with the lowest value stamp depicting a girl in front a field with a swastika adorned sun in the background, while a worker and his horse plow the hill to the left. The stamp of the woman has a backdrop of a row of houses and the man a horse-drawn carriage. Even though I've already described each stamp I will run through their topical depiction, face value, colour and finally Michel catalog code regardless. All three were designed by Ferdinand Lorber and Otto Engelhardt-Kyffhäuser.

- A young girl with a swastika sun on the horizon, 12 + 38 Polish Grosz, Blackish Opal Green, DE-GO 56.

- A woman in a head-scarf standing before a row of buildings, 24 + 26 Polish Grosz, Brownish Carmine, DE-GO 57.

- A man in a fur hooded coat standing before a horse-drawn carriage, 30 + 20 Polish Grosz, Blackish Violet, DE-GO 58.

Generalgouvernement Winter Relief (1st December 1940):

1stanniversaryofGG

Here I have a set of four semi-postal stamps issued for 'Winterhilfswerk' the Nazi's Winter charity relief fund. You may have noticed it utilizes the same design as the highest face-value stamp from the previous set and was of course designed by Ferdinand Lorber and Otto Engelhardt-Kyffhäuse. I will now run through the usual details about each stamp.

- Man in a furred coat, 12 + 8 Polish Grosz, Blackish Green, DE-GO 59.

- Man in a furred coat, 24 + 16 Polish Grosz, Blackish Pink Red, DE-GO 60.

- Man in a furred coat, 30 + 30 Polish Grosz, Dark Carmine Brown, DE-GO 61.

- Man who is also in a furred coat!, 50 + 50 Polish Grosz, Violet Ultramarine, DE-GO 62.

Generalgouvernement Cultural Figures (20th November 1942):

ggculturalfigures42

Here is a set of five semi-postal stamps issued by the Nazi Generalgouvernement to honour a variety of cultural figures. I will run through the topical theme (identity of the portrait), it's face-value, colour and then finally Michel catalog code.

- Veit Stoß, a German sculptor and carver, 12 + 18 Polish Grosz, Blackish Violet, DE-GO 96.

- Hans Dürer, a German painter and brother to Albrecht Dürer, 24 + 26 Polish Grosz, Dark Brownish Red, DE-GO 97.

- Johann Christian Schuch, a German garden designer and architect, 30 + 30 Polish Grosz, Blackish Brown Purple, DE-GO 98.

- Josef Elsner, a Polish composer, 50 + 50 Polish Grosz, Black Ultramarine, DE-GO 99.

- Nicolaus Copernicus, a Polish astronomer and Renaissance polymath, 1 + 1 Polish Zloty, DE-GO 100.

It is worth noting that all of these five men were considered by the Nazi's to be more or less German. Whether a couple were known to be Polish or not. They hotly debated and wanted to claim Copernicus as their own and featured his portrait on several philatelic issues. Elsner though born in Poland and who spent his life in Poland, was still born to two German Silesian Catholic parents. Schuch also, though active and living in Poland for most his life, was still born in Dresden Germany. My point is that even though the Nazis gave the facade of honouring both Polish and German men with these issues; they actually believed them all to be German anyway and to the Nazis your ancestry and blood mattered far more than geographical location. When the Nazis annexed or invaded neighbouring lands they would still try to preserve all of the 'German' blood even if it meant killing anyone else in the vicinity, and to them it often did.
